Following a successful winter ocean race series, Bermuda Triathlon Association begin their summer swim season tomorrow with a half mile event off Horseshoe

The new series will comprise seven swims, six of which will count in the overall points standings.Age divisions for males and females are 15-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 and over.

Other races to follow include a one mile swim off Blackwatch Pass on Wednesday, May 21 at 6.30 p.m., a one mile swim at Warwick Long Bay on Sunday June 8 at 5.00 p.m., a 1.5 mile swim at Elbow Beach on Sunday, June 29 at 5.00 p.m., a two mile swim along the Causeway starting from Blue Hole Park on Sunday, July 13 at 5.00 p.m., a 2.25 mile swim at Evans Bay on Sunday, July 27 at 5.00 p.m. and a "pick-a-distance'' one, two or four mile individual or relay swim on Sunday, August 24 at 4.00 p.m. from Harrington Sound Dock.

MARTIAL ARTS MAT Bermuda Karate Institute founder Skipper Ingham, head trainer Kent Simmons and student Gilbert Darrell leave the Island next week to compete in the 16th Annual House of the Samurai Traditional Invitational Karate Tournament in Londonderry, New Hampshire.

In 1995, Simmons won gold in the masters kumite division at this event and went on to defeat the under-35 champion for the fighting grandchampionship as well as capturing silver in masters kata and fifth place in weapons.

He had won the masters kumite (fighting) title and placed fourth in masters kata (forms) in 1993.

Meanwhile, Simmons and Darrell along with other BKA students David Reid, Corinne Bonga, Shaun Dill and Jamie Petty will run the May 24 Marathon Derby as a fund raiser for the Bermuda Karate Organisation who are fielding a team at August's Okinawa Karate and Kobudo World Tournament in Japan.

SOCCER SOC Commercial League players will don their strip one more time on Wednesday for the Billy Agnew Memorial game at National Stadium.

The game, named after the former Commercial League player who died in 1985, pits a select squad of England players against a select squad of Scotland players.

The Scots have won six of the matches in the 11-year history of the match, the English players four, including 3-1 last year. There has been one draw.

Sponsored by Robin Hood, proceeds of the match go to charity. Game time is 6.00 p.m.
