Parfitt not included in BCBC plans
vacant position of Bermuda national coach.
The 55-year-old ex-Cup Match star left the Island to return home to Scotland on Monday without having had any official talks with Bermuda Cricket Board of Control during his two-week vacation.
His arrival back on the Island had coincided with BCBC president El James' announcement that the board were urgently seeking a full-time coach in preparation for a series of international matches over the next few years.
But when asked this week if the board had officially met with Parfitt or intended to do so, BCBC secretary Charlotte (Molly) Simons said that no discussions had taken place nor were any planned.
"The answer is no, we haven't had any official meeting with Mr. Parfitt and none whatsoever had ever been planned,'' she said.
James left the Island over the weekend but before his departure confirmed that he had had only unofficial discussions with Parfitt about the the post.
And he made it clear that the talks were more in the form of a "friendly chat''.
"There certainly wasn't anything official offered to Parfitt about becoming our national coach because we are not in a position to offer anything like that to anybody at the moment,'' said James.
"I again stress, yes we need a coach and we want to have one as soon as possible. But certainly not before we sit down and discuss all aspects of the job, finding a suitable job description and taking into consideration what salary would be appropriate for that task. And we are not anywhere near to concluding these internal negotiations.'' But the president said the board were not turning their back on Parfitt either.
