Steede ton earns Stars easy win
Southampton Rangers 142 Albert Steede hammered his first ton of the season in just his second appearance as Western Stars scored a convincing 106-run victory over Southampton Rangers at St. John's field on Sunday.
Opener Steede finished with 125, including 13 fours and a six, and shared in a number of valuable stands -- the biggest being for the fifth wicket Ricky Brangman that added 81 runs. Brangman finished with 39 not out.
Also among the runs for Stars were Jermaine Postlethwaite with 22, Treadwell Gibbons with 17 and skipper Arnold Manders (12).
Arnold Manders tore the heart out of Southampton's batting after the visitors had got off to a robust start with openers Keith Wainwright and Kuame Tucker putting on 75. Wainwright scored 43 and Tucker 27.
But once Manders brought himself on after using four bowlers, Southampton went into a slump, losing five quick wickets before the score reached three figures.
Manders finished with five for 23 off 10 overs, including two maidens, while young spinner Justin Robinson snatched two for 11 off just 2.5 overs.
Hasan Durham also played a vital role in the destruction by taking two for 18 off 10 overs, with three maidens.
Warwick 101 Bailey's Bay 105-2 Bailey's Bay made short work of 10-men Warwick at Sea Breeze Oval as they wrapped up victory by just after 3.30 p.m.
Warwick were in early trouble at 26-5 before two defiant partnerships for the next two wickets enabled them to reach the 100 mark. Corey Hill and Clarkie Trott did the early damage with Trott taking three of the first five wickets and Hill two before he was forced off with an injury.
Ritchie Foggo and Reginald Pitcher stopped the slide with a stand of 41 for the sixth wicket which ended with Foggo going for 24, including three fours and two sixes. Pitcher and E.J. Minors (14) put put on another 31 for the seventh wicket before Pitcher departed for 23.
Minors was left not out as teenager Jim West took the last two wickets in his sixth over to finish with three for 28.
Glenn Blakeney and Cal Dill finished unbeaten on 34 and 26 as Bay clinched victory in 15.2 overs. Pitcher took both wickets to finish with figures of two for eight off six overs. He bowled the only two maidens of the innings.
Cleveland 161 Police 162-9 Police squeezed out a one-wicket victory over Cleveland at Police Field thanks to a last-wicket stand of 24 between Daniel Reece and Richard Austin.
Reece spearheaded the Police fightback with a spirited 52 not out while Stevie Lightbourne contributed 31 and tail-ender Austin an unbeaten 14.
Carlton Smith and Cecil Pitcher each snatched three wickets for Cleveland.
Earlier, Jason Simons led Cleveland in batting with 29 while veteran Allan Douglas followed with 22. Toby Trott scored 23 and Carlton Smith 13.
Austin also led the Police bowling with three for 21 off 10 overs.
Flatts 282-8 Willow Cuts 214 For the second time this season Flatts sprung a surprise victory over the west enders on their own turf, winning convincingly by 68 runs at Somerset CC.
Rahji Edness led the scoring assault with a solid 57 while Millard Bean assisted with 47. Also among the runs were opener Gershon Gibbons with 34, Phillip Burgess 27, Rodney Woolridge 24 and Michael Burgess 18 not out in the tail-end.
The Willow Cuts bowlers toiled hard for wickets with only Kenny Maybury taking more than one. But his pair were costly as he gave up 53 runs off seven overs.

Dwight Basden topped Cuts' batting with 52, Ozzie Hinds struck 45 not out, Richard Basden 27 and Charles Swan 21.
PHC 214 Somerset Bridge 147 PHC defeated Somerset Bridge by 67 runs at White Hill with player-coach James Pace scoring 48, Ty Williams 47 and Mark Smith 21.
Ellsworth Bean led PHC's attack with four wickets for 23 runs while Pace took two for 11.
Denzil Dill topped the Bridge batting with 38 while Leroy Brangman followed with 27.
Devonshire Rec. won by default over Social Club who showed up with only four players.
