Hornets made to work against new boys

Robin Hood 0Dandy Town 2Dandy Town midfielder Damon Ming was critical of his side’s performance as they beat Robin Hood 2-0 at St John’s Field to grab their first home win of the campaign.Heys Wolfe gave his side the lead in the 41st minute before Jamel Swan made the points safe with his goal in the 65th, with the loss being the new boys first taste of defeat in the top flight. In a match that was always going to be tough for the visitors, they made it hard for their more illustrious opponents to break them down.“We played in spurts today,” said Ming. “It wasn’t our best performance by any stretch of the imagination but a win is a win and we will take it.“It was sloppy out there but that is a credit to them as well because they worked hard on their task and made it hard for us as well in the process.“The coach said before the game that we need to win by any means and this is one of the games that we had to use that mentality and we walked away with three points, but more importantly a home win.”The game got off to a slow start with neither side looking to make the first mistake, Hood attempting to prevent both Town skipper Raymond Beach and Wolfe getting any space to operate in.Beach came close with an effort that went wide of the post and some excellent defending by the visitors ensured that Town’s chances were limited.Hood, however, fell asleep for the opening goal when Swan was allowed time inside the area to swivel and supply Wolfe with the simplest of tap ins from close range. The goal was what the game needed as both sides’ attempts of playing the ball through the middle of the park on a regular basis resulted in a midfield battle.Hood midfielder Drewonde Bascome almost caught Treadwell Gibbons jr napping in goal from his half-way line effort early in the second half but the tall netminder positioned himself well to make sure he kept his clean sheet. The game was effectively over as a contest when Swan was again allowed time to roam in the middle and let off a rocket that flew into the top corner of Jason Simons’ net.David Outerbridge almost brought his side back into the match when he was put in behind the Town backline, but his shot cannoned off the post and back into play.Aljame Zuill looked to have made it 3-0 but his header was called back for offside.“The game can be a bit sloppy at times so you have to buckle down and get on with the task at hand. Today was a battle against ourselves and whether we could get the job done when we don’t play well and we did,” said Ming.“We had to slow our game down considerably to their pace but again they played well and we just need to move the ball a bit faster in order to open up teams like this as the season moves on.Robin Hood: J Simons, L Tota, T Terceira, J Crockwell, A Wolffe, S Franks(R Paul, 67), A Williams, D Bascome, S Simons(A Nelson, 45), D Bell, D OuterbridgeSubs not used: M Hunt, D Mallory, T Figuerido, C HeweyDandy Town: T Gibbons, A Lowe, G Dyer, W Place(B Trott,70), S Darrell, K Tucker, S Brown(T Daniels, 58), D Ming, J Swan, H Wolfe(A Zuill,72), R BeachSubs not used:T Daniels, A RockerGoals: Wolfe (41st), Swan (65th)Referee: A MouchetteMan of the match: S BrownSomerset Trojans 3 St David’s 2Dion Stovell scored in the dying moments of a pulsating game as Somerset Trojans came from behind to grab their first win of the season on Saturday night.Stovell struck five minutes from time to complete his team’s comeback and give his side the points in a five-goal thriller that could have gone either way.St David’s were left to wonder what might have been after Dominique Lambert and Dimitri Butterfield had struck to to give the visiting side the half-time lead, cancelling out Stovell’s 14th minute penalty. In an end-to-end second half both teams had chances to put the game out of reach but it wasn’t until Somerset winger Jahi Simmons struck with ten minutes left that the home side made the breakthrough they had been threatening.Fittingly Stovell had the last word and his goal settled an enthralling encounter giving Trojans a valuable win and leaving winless St David’s rooted to the bottom of the Digicel Premier Division.
