Cambridge sack head coach Dunne

Reggie Lambe's Cambridge United have sacked their head coach Joe Dunne after a poor run of results.

Dunne took over the role in May, after three months in charge as interim manager last season, but leaves the Sky Bet League Two side in 21st position.

“Results have dictated the need for change,” Graham Daniels, the Cambridge director of football, said. “We believe we have the talent in this squad to be further up the table. While the team has shown its ability in patches during the season we have struggled to find consistency.

“As a result the board came to the conclusion that the team would benefit from a change of leadership.”

Mark Bonner, the assistant manager, will take temporary charge of the side, with their next fixture a Checkatrade Trophy game away to Northampton Town tomorrow.

Nahki Wells's Queens Park Rangers suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to struggling Hull City in the Championship on Saturday.

Jarrod Bowen scored two and created a third as Hull climbed out of the relegation zone.

A left-footed finish from Bowen and a header from Markus Henriksen put Nigel Adkins's side two goals up inside 25 minutes, before Pawel Wszolek halved the deficit for QPR. Bowen's second-half effort looked to have sealed the win for Hull before a Luke Freeman goal in injury time ensured a nervous finish for the visiting side.

Jonté Smith's Lewes side won 1-0 at home to Leatherhead in the Bostik League Premier Division on Saturday. James Hammond scored for Lewes.
