Leverock: Bermuda will ‘get job done’

Danté Leverock is confident of Bermuda “getting the job done” during their final Concacaf Nations League qualifier away to the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

Bermuda enter the match at the Estadio Cibao in Santiago knowing that a win will be enough to secure their place at the Gold Cup this year. It would be the first time Bermuda has reached the biennial competition, which is for teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

“We are looking to get the job done,” Leverock said, who has captained Bermuda in their past two games. “It will be a very tough task, but I am confident in the team.”

Bermuda are seventh in the qualifying standings, with two wins from three games, and in a strong position to qualify as one of the top-ten teams for the Gold Cup, which will be held in the United States.

“I’m proud of the position we are in and now we need to take that extra step,” Leverock added. “It’s a massive opportunity not only for the Bermuda team but the nation as a whole.

“I can’t stress the importance of the game for the future of Bermuda football and what it can mean for the next generation.”

Kyle Lightbourne’s squad has been preparing for the match at a training camp in Florida for the past week.

Leverock, who joined Irish top-flight side Sligo Rovers from Estonian outfit Narva Trans last December, said he is enjoying being reunited with his Bermuda team-mates.

“It’s always a privilege to link up with the Bermuda team and there’s great harmony among us,” he said.

The bulk of Bermuda’s squad is based overseas, with Nahki Wells, Reggie Lambe, Jonté Smith, Willie Clemons, Roger Lee, Zeiko Lewis, Justin Donawa and Leverock among the professionals.

Lightbourne was forced to make a change to his squad after PHC Zebras midfielder Keishon Bean injured his knee against Dandy Town last weekend. He has been replaced by defender William White.

Bermuda lost 3-1 away to Aruba in their opening qualifier before thrashing Sint Maarten 12-0 and beating El Salvador 1-0 at the National Stadium.
