Deal confirmed: Justin Donawa leaves Solihull Moors to join Vanarama National League rivals Altrincham

Three of Bermuda’s footballers are on the move ahead of the upcoming season.

Most notably among them is Justin Donawa, who has left Solihull Moors to join Vanarama National League rivals Altrincham.

Donawa, who made a total of 26 appearances for Moors last season, returned to action in November after recovering from a fractured distal fibula, which kept him sidelined for almost a year and scored his only goal of the campaign in a 1-1 draw against Maidenhead United last month, as Solihull finished fifteenth.

Despite his injury issues since joining the club from Darlington in October 2020, he was offered a new contract to extend his stay with the West Midlands-based outfit but the 26-year-old has instead opted to make the move to Greater Manchester-based Altrincham, who finished two places below Solihull last season.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Bermudian international winger Justin Donawa to Altrincham Football Club,” said manager Phil Parkinson. “We identified that we needed to add pace to our frontline, JD certainly gives us that.

“However, he is definitely not just a player who relies on his pace; he’s been well educated and coached.

“I think he’ll suit the way we work and play. He’s now got a decent amount of experience at this level and higher with his international exploits.

“He’s very versatile, which is also extremely important with us operating with a smaller squad. He can play right wing, right wing-back and right back. It is rare for a winger to be so reliable defensively as well as being a threat going forward.

“Like all the players we’ve signed this summer, he’s a great age with a point to prove in the prime of his career. He’s got so much potential and I don’t think he’s demonstrated it fully yet, but we’re confident we can help him get there.

“He will be a player who will get the fans on the edge of their seats and fill them with belief. He’ll create something every time he’s involved in the play.”

Meanwhile, Reggie Lambe is on the lookout for a new club after parting ways with English non-League side AFC Sudbury, where he spent the second half of last season.

Lambe, who joined the Suffolk-based club in February, helped them win promotion from the Isthmian League North Division via the play-off final.

“I would like to wish AFC Sudbury all the best, my time at the club has come to an end,” said Lambe, who joined the club from Isthmian League North Division rivals Stowmarket Town. “It was short but sweet. Thanks for the memories!”

Bermuda midfielder Milan Butterfield has sealed a move to Nuneaton Borough in the Southern League Premier Division Central, the seventh tier of English football.

Butterfield, who has earned six caps, has had a varied career in England after playing for the likes of Walsall, Kidderminster Harriers and Chesterfield.

“We are delighted to announce Milan Butterfield as our latest signing,” said Nuneaton Borough on the club’s Twitter page. “The Bermuda international has joined the Borough for the 23-24 season.”
