Bermuda’s young swimmers continued to pile up the medals at the Carifta Aquatics Championships on Sunday.

After picking up five medals, including two golds at the evening session on Saturday, hopes were high of collecting more hardware during the second night of finals and the island’s representatives did not disappoint.

Madelyn Moore picked up her second gold medal of the Games after following her victory in the women 18 and Over 50 metres backstroke with a win in the 50 metres butterfly. Moore, the most experienced member of the team at the age of 23, came home in a time of 27.47sec, 0.07sec ahead of Sabrina Lynn of Jamaica.

Logan Watson-Brown, who was beaten into second place by Moore in the 50 back, went one better to grab the gold in the girls 18 & over 100 metres backstroke. The 20-year-old had nearly four seconds to spare over her nearest challenger at the line after finishing in 1:03.86.

Connor Hupman, who won gold in the 13-14 boys 50 metres backstroke on day one, added two silver medals to his Carifta collection when finishing runner-up in the 200 metres freestyle and 100 metres backstroke.

Hupman was joined on the list of silver-medal winners by Katherine Wheddon, who finished second in the girls 13-14 200 metres freestyle. The 14-year-old touched the wall in 2:14.63, just over seven seconds behind impressive winner Heidi Stoute, from Barbados.

The medal performances did not end there with 17-year-old Elijah Daley picking up a bronze medal in the boys 15-17 50 metres butterfly and a silver medal in the 100 metres backstroke.

Marleigh Howes, 15, will also be heading bact to Bermuda with a bronze medal in her luggage after finishing third in the girls 15 and Over 200 metres freestyle. That performance was all the more meritorious given that gold-medal winner Harper Barrowman, of the Cayman Islands, is aged 17 and runner-up Tilly Collymore, from Grenada, is a year older than Howes.

Rory Shepherd captured his second bronze of the Games when finishing third in the boys 11-12 100 metres backstroke.

Adriana Argent picked up the team’s first medal at the Games when winning silver in the 15-17 Girls 800 metres freestyle after clocking a time of 10:19.37.
