Daley siblings shine in pool at Long Course Championships
Swimming siblings Elan and Elijah Daley dominated in the pool at the Schroders Spring Long Course Championships.
The two Daleys, who have both competed for Bermuda at the World Aquatics Championships, tasted nothing but victory over three days of intense competition at the National Sports Centre last weekend.
Elan Daley, now aged 20, won all six of her finals, touching the wall first in the 50 and 100 metres butterfly, the 50, 100 and 200 metres freestyle and the 50 metres breaststroke.
Her best performance came when earning 714 Fina points for her time of 57.83sec in the 100 freestyle. She also finished as the top scorer in the 15 and over female age group with 3,823 points ahead of fellow Sharks Swimming Club members Jorgia White (3,238) and Elanna Fulton (3,187).
Elijah Daley’s top swim came when picking up 663 points for a time of 53.74 in the 100 metres freestyle. He also won the 50 metres freestyle, the 50 and 100 metres butterfly, the 50, 100 and 200 metres breaststroke and the 50 metres backstroke.
His total points tally of 4,394 handed him victory in the 15 and over male age group ahead of Logan Jones (3,328) and Joseph Moniz (2,543).
Harbour Swimming Club was represented at the top of the age-group leaderboards courtesy of Sloane Wright (1,393) and Samuel Bernardino (531) in the 10 and under categories. Wright led a Harbour sweep of the top-three positions with Myla Desjardins (1,216) and Kiera Slater (1,076) filling the places.
Allison Steynor took top honours for Sharks in the 11-12 girls division with 2,262 points, edging out Harbour swimmers Colette Durkin (2,202) and Eva Desjardins (1,915). The boys 11-12 division went the way of Harbour’s Walker Smith on 1,627, ahead of the Sharks duo of Camden Collette (1,377) and Maxwell Williams (1,184).
Scarlett Spurling, from Harbour, won the 13-14 girls age group with 2,986 points, beating clubmate Isla Cooze (2,537) and Lilian Colette (1,358), who represented Sharks.
Gabriel Maranzana, also representing Harbour, racked up 2,899 points to win the boys 13-14 category. Noah Fulton, of Sharks, finished second on 2,706 with Harbour’s Benjamin Troskie (1,745) third.
