Carifta Games medal-winners J’Auza James and Jaeda Grant are among a Bermuda Pacers Track Club contingent competing at the Flying Angels International Track and Field Championships in Ontario, Canada, this weekend.

James, who captured a bronze medal in the octathlon at the Carifta Games in Bahamas in April, is competing in the 17-19 boys 400, 800 and 1,500 metres as well as the long jump and javelin.

Top junior female distance runner Grant, who earned a bronze medal in the 4x400 relay at the 2022 Carifta Games in Jamaica, is the club’s sole competitor in the 15-16 age group.

Maximillian Reid, who is one of the oldest members of the team along with James, is competing in the 400, 800 and 1,500 metres.

The pair also represented Bermuda Pacers at the Armory Youth Championships in New York this year.

Aaron Lugo makes his second appearance at the event and is the sole team member in the 15-16 boys division.

Sprinters LaShee Jones, Saniya Place, Hannah Dill and Lialina Peters are competing in the 13-14 girls 100, 200 and 400 metres with distance runners Azari Jones and Amaris Munya racing in the 400, 800 and 15,00 metres.

All team members in the 13-14 girls category will also combine to compete in the relays.

Malik Paynter, Andre Hollinsid and David Morris are competing in the 13-14 boys 100, 200 and 400 metres. Paynter and Hollinsid are also competing in the long jump event.

Tobiah Goodchild, the team’s lone distance runner in the 13-14 boys category, is competing in the 800 and 1,500 metres and will also join forces with Paynter, Hollinsid and Morris for the sprint medley relay.

Sprinters Zakhya Scott, Zaria Codrington, Jasmine Reid-Rubaine, Leydi Raynor, Zahra Goodchild, Amaya Davis, and Alae Rochester are competing in the girls aged 11 to 12 category in the 100, 200, and 400 metres. Reid-Rubaine is also taking part in the long jump.

Distance runners Riana Robinson and Sukanya Jobson are also competing in that division in the 400, 800 and 1,500 metres.

Flying the club’s banner alone among boys aged 11 to 12 is 2023 Denton Hurdle Award winner Jace Postlethwaite, who is competing in the 100, 200 and long jump.

Ava St Luce and Mylah DeSilva are competing in the girls 9 to 10 age group alongside Zaya Zuill.

Harlo Robinson is in the same age group for boys alongside Jemani Scott.

Tamae Davis and Giselle Reid-Rubaine, the two youngest members on the team, are competing in the girls aged 8 and under category.

In all, the Bermuda Pacers team consists of 31 athletes between the ages of 7 and 18 years, with 17 representing the club internationally for the first time.

The Flying Angels International Track and Field Championship, which attracts about 800 athletes from across the United States, Canada and Caribbean, will be held at York University’s Track and Field Centre in Toronto, Ontario, from Friday to July 16.

The Bermuda Pacers athletes depart from Bermuda on Wednesday and will be accompanied by club executive, coaches and family.
