Overnight storm knocked out power for 2,000 homes

The North Shore in Pembroke experiences strong winds and storm surge this morning.
High winds overnight on Friday knocked out power for almost 2,000 homes this morning, according to Belco, but electricity was restored by Saturday afternoon.
As of 3.30pm, only seven customers were still without power. Belco crews had worked to restore service since dawn.
The numbers of people without power fluctuated as strong winds were experienced throughout the day. The worst of the gales occurred at about 5am when winds reached as high as 38mph with gusts to 50mph.
The Bermuda Weather Service said a cold front moved across the area early this morning, bringing showers and gale force winds.
Almost half an inch - 0.43in - of rain was dumped in early morning rain showers, bringing the total amount of rain this month to 4.88in.
