I was talking to a mom this weekend, and her words struck a chord. “Me-time? Self-care?” she laughed, when I asked her about getting her hair done. “Honey, between work, my kids school and projects, there’s no time for that.”

This sentiment – the feeling that self-care is a luxury for the privileged few – is all too common, especially among mothers. But here’s the truth: self-care isn’t a fluffy indulgence; it's the foundation of fitness for busy moms.

Think of it like this: you wouldn’t expect your car to run on fumes for ever. You need regular pitstops to refuel and recharge. The same goes for you!

Self-care is your fuel tank. It replenishes your energy reserves, boosts your mind, mood, and strengthens your resilience – all essential ingredients for a healthy and active lifestyle.

So, how can busy moms incorporate self-care into your already jam-packed days? Here are a few practical tips:

Micro-breaks are mighty. You don’t need to live at the spa however an occasional spa treatment would definitely bring you joy.

Sneak in five-minute meditations, listen to a calming podcast while folding laundry, or have a cup of tea midday even if it’s for ten minutes. These mini-moments can make a big difference.

Move your body, your way. Exercise doesn’t have to be a chore. Find a class or an activity you genuinely enjoy, whether it’s a brisk walk in nature, a circuit class with friends, or an online yoga session.

Delegate and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Can your partner handle bath time tonight? Can an older child help with setting the table?

Can a friend assist you in anyway? They will not do it how you do it, but it will definitely relieve you of a little load.

Sharing the load allows you to free up some precious “me-time”.

Sleep is sacred. Aim for seven to eight hours of quality sleep each night. A well-rested mom is a more energised mom, both physically and mentally.

Nourish your body with healthy food. Eating nutritious meals gives you the energy you need to power through your day.

Remember, taking care of yourself isn't selfish – it allows you to better take care of everyone else in your life.

Moms are always juggling a million tasks. By prioritising self-care, you’re not just giving yourself a gift; you’re investing in your overall wellbeing.

The fitter and healthier you are, the more you can show up for your family, giving positivity and energy.

So ditch the guilt, embrace self-care, and watch yourself become the fit and fabulous mom you know you can be!

Prioritise yourself and B-Active For Life!
