Band walks off stage at soca concert
Saturday night's Soca Extravaganza has written to The Royal Gazette complaining about a "lack of cooperation, deliberate or otherwise'' from the sound engineers of the event.
David C.W. Foley, band leader of "Piece of the Rock'' said in his letter that the events could have been avoided by "the courtesy of a returned phone call earlier in the week'' from Sound Concepts, the company which handled the sound engineering for the concert at Tiger Bay, St. George's.
He described how, during the performance, he found out that most of what they were playing was "not coming through the sound system and therefore could not be heard.'' After complaining to the engineers on several occasions during the show, Mr.
Foley said that there was still no improvement in the way the music was coming through.
The band leader apparently "took this as an indication that the band was no longer required'' and called them off stage.
He blamed the "unfortunate turn of events'' on the fact that the band had a seven horn piece section while there were only three horn microphones on stage and said this was due to disorganisation on Sound Concepts' part.
"Had the courtesy of a returned phone call taken place earlier in the week alternate arrangements could have been made and more suitable equipment could have been used.'' Mr. Foley expressed his regret of what happened saying that "Piece of the Rock has worked hard preparing for this event... only to have the integrity of the band compromised.''
