BAA brush aside Village in PDL semi-final
BAA 5 North Village 3BAA coach Maurice Lowe believes his team’s victory over domestic giants North Village in the offers tangible proof their programme is heading in the right direction.Last night’s win at BAA Field might have only been in the PDL Christmas Tournament hardly one of the major pieces of silverware up for grabs but it was against a Village side including Bermuda internationals Keishen Bean and Jemeiko Jennings.Conversely BAA, who overhauled their entire programme 18 months ago under the guidance of Kenny Thompson, fielded just two players over the age 23 with the remainder of the team still teenagers.Although winning silverware isn’t BAA’s top priority at this embryonic stage in their development, Lowe admits that claiming the PDL Christmas Tournament trophy would be self-belief booster for his young players.“North Village are top notch opponents with lots of pedigree so to beat them is a good measuring stick for us,” said the former Bermuda skipper.“We definitely would like to win the tournament as a piece of silverware would offer some tangible success and show that we’re moving forward as a programme.”BAA were up three nil inside the first 40 minutes through goals from Dante Taylor, Vance Hill and Quintonio Lema, but conceded twice before the interval with Jahquan Deshields-Smith and Kaiwon Dill on the mark for Village. After the break, Lema addedhis second but BAA were pegged back midway through the second half when Pierre Smith scored Village’s third.Moments before the final whistle Hill made sure of BAA’s victory when he latched onto a through ball, rounded the Village goalkeeper, before placing his shot into the empty net.Dandy Town will now meet BAA in the final on New Year’s Day after beating PHC 10-9 in a penalty shoot-out in last night’s second semi-final at BAA Field. The match finished 4-4 after normal time.
