Police will be out in force over the holiday weekend, in which several carnival events are scheduled.

Officers will be deployed across all major events and related social gatherings, with a continued focus on ensuring safety and preventing crime.

Motorists can expect enhanced traffic enforcement throughout the weekend, targeting impaired driving.

Roadside Sobriety Checkpoints will be in operation at strategic locations across the island.

Detective Superintendent Dennis Astwood, Gold Commander for the policing operation, said: “Our aim is to strike the right balance between enabling the community to enjoy the holiday and safeguarding everyone’s welfare.

“We ask for the public’s co-operation so that carnival and National Heroes Day can be celebrated safely and without incident.”

A police spokesman urged residents and visitors to “celebrate responsibly”, adding: “The public is reminded that any involvement in criminal or antisocial behaviour will be met with firm and proportionate enforcement.”

Police advised partygoers to travel in groups or pairs whenever possible, park in well lit, populated areas and avoid obstructing roads or private driveways.

They also recommended anyone attending an event to tell a trusted person of their plans and expected return time and to co-operate with police officers “to ensure smooth operations and a positive event experience”.
