Aegon has presented $180,000 in grant money to three local charities as part of the Aegon Live Your Best Life Grant.

Tibor Leeuwenburgh, Aegon’s country executive in Bermuda, presented $60,000 each to Age Concern Bermuda, Connectech Coding and Family Centre.

The recipients were chosen for supporting initiatives to improve financial education, encourage entrepreneurship, and help local people develop the skills they need to play an active role in Bermuda’s economy.

An Aegon spokesman said it has been truly inspiring to learn about the wealth of organisations dedicated to inclusion and empowerment in Bermuda during the grant process.

“Aegon is privileged to play a small part in supporting this vibrant community, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact these grants will have in helping people live their best lives,” the firm said.

Age Concern Bermuda was chosen because it is committed to building a future where older adults are informed, empowered and fully engaged through accessible education, inclusive services and community partnerships that promote successful ageing for all.

“Supported by Aegon’s grant, Age Concern Bermuda aims to deliver 12 monthly education sessions covering financial literacy, caregiving, elder rights and chronic illness management,” Aegon said.

Connectech Coding empowers youth through technology education, making coding as fundamental as reading and mathematics.

The grant will support its Digital Skills for All, a multigenerational, tech-based programme that equips youth and adults with the tools to improve their financial situation, launch businesses and build stronger communities.

Family Centre was chosen for facilitating healing, hope and connection to strengthen families and create a healthier Bermuda for its children.

Aegon said the grant provides funding to help sustain the Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) programme. Spanning 4½ years, it supports students until the end of their high school graduation year.

The YLA helps young people to overcome obstacles, recognise their gifts, fulfil their potential and become self-sufficient, engaged citizens.

The grant is part of Aegon’s community investment project, which aims to enhance inclusion in Bermuda and involves supporting organisations that empower people financially and socially in the local community.

The Bermuda Foundation supports Aegon with the administration of the community investment programme.

Running for an initial period of three years, the scheme contributes to the Bermuda Foundation, the Aegon Live Your Best Life Grant for local charitable organisations and the Aegon Live Your Best Life Scholarship for students pursuing careers within Bermuda’s economy.

Last year, five students received the scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year.
