Panel to address social issues in the community
Residents of Sandys and the wider community are invited to a take part in a panel discussion on social issues this evening.
The Sandys Speaks Fireside Chat will provide an opportunity for attendees to hold conversations about issues affecting families.
They will also explore ideas to build a stronger future for Sandys Parish and beyond.
The event — which is hosted by the Sandys Parish Council — will run from 6.30pm for two hours at the Willowbank Conference Center.
Organisers said a panel will address the economic pressures facing residents and the importance of planning ahead.
Titled “Cost of Living: Navigating Today, Planning for Tomorrow”, the panel will share perspectives on financial literacy, economic challenges and the realities faced by households and seniors.
Speakers include economist Craig Simmons, Shantel DeShields, of Pocket Change, and Mercedes Pringle-DeSilva, of Age Concern.
A second panel will address antisocial behaviour including prevention, accountability and early intervention.
Members will highlight positive community efforts that support young people and create safer neighbourhoods.
The panellists include Taniko Tucker, who works with young people through trade and skill programmes, and Cervio Cox, of the TNT Athletics Centre.
Mr Cox uses fitness, mentorship and discipline to help guide the island’s youth towards positive pathways.
Devon Simmons, a cofounder of the Open Your Heart Foundation, will share insights on addressing antisocial behaviour.
Organisers said the event is intended to create a welcoming space where residents can contribute to meaningful dialogue about the future of the community.
