New stamp issue explores island culture
A new collection of postal stamps celebrates Bermuda’s culture and artistic community.
The Bermuda Post Office said it features work from six artists, each of whom offers a “unique perspective inspired by Bermuda’s landscape, marine environment and cultural identity”.
Work by Morgan Dagata, Otto Trott, Joseph and Lisa Philpott, Eli Cedrone, Vaughronde’ Joseph and Zo Wakefield was submitted for the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art’s 2023 Charman Prize.
A statement added: “Each piece in this collection represents an artistic response to the competition’s central question: ‘What does it mean to be a local? To be a Bermudian?’
“Through diverse styles and perspectives, the artworks capture the spirit of Bermuda while reflecting the evolving experiences of Bermudians in the modern world.”
Diallo Rabain, the Minister of the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, said: “This commemorative stamp issue is a meaningful celebration of Bermuda’s rich artistic talent and cultural identity.
“Through the work of these gifted artists, we are able to showcase the beauty, diversity and evolving story of Bermuda to both residents and the wider world.
“Initiatives like this not only honour our creative community, but also reinforce the important role that art plays in preserving our heritage and shaping our national identity for future generations.”
The issue can be purchased, starting tomorrow, at $4 for the mint set and $7.50 for the first-day cover.
