Devonshire Colts are still in the title race courtesy of a first half hat-trick from Chemarl Henry as they defeated relegated Boulevard Blazers 5-1 at Devonshire Rec on Sunday evening.

Colts trail leaders Dandy Town Hornets by five points with two games remaining and will need to keep the pressure on the league leaders in their rescheduled match against Paget at White Hill Field on Sunday.

Henry opened the scoring in the tenth minute from a corner but Doreiko Walker would capitalise on a low corner from Keegan Astwood to sneak a flick in at the near post to level the scores.

Henry scored his second after Boulevard failed to clear their lines, which allowed the striker to control and blast through a crowded goalmouth into the back off the net.

Henry completed his hat-trick after he was given room to shoot with his shot taking a slight deflection off a Blazers’ defender to wrong-foot Boulevard’s goalkeeper DeAz Chambers and nest in the bottom right corner.

In the 30th minute of play, both teams, benches and spectators gave a standing ovation to veteran Blazers midfielder Neko Smith, who announced his retirement after playing 30 years for the Pembroke Club. He was also made captain for the day

Colts would score their fourth from good awareness by right full back Shane Robinson who intercepted a diagonal cross before keeping possession to dribble upfield before drilling a low shot into the bottom corner to beat the advancing Chambers.

Goalscorer Henry then turned provider when he played an inch perfect pass to Senoj Mitchell to run onto and side foot beyond Chambers to close out the scoring.

Young Men Social Club will be playing in the First Division next season after losing 5-2 to North Village at Bernard Park on Saturday.

After going 3-0 down just after half time the writing appeared on the wall for Social Club but they showed plenty of heart as the curtain closed on their Premier Division chances.

Despite their relegation Social Club coach Mikey Smith remained positive and will use the demotion as an opportunity to regroup and rebuild for a quick return.

“We knew the situation going into this game,” Smith said.

“We started flat and didn’t capitalise on the few chances that we had in the first half. Their early goal in the second half knocked us off stride a bit but credit to the guys as we never gave in.

“I am hoping to bounce right back up. Hopefully, e will stay together as this is a good group of guys. We will definitely do a goalkeeping recruit and look to be challenging for promotion back into the top Division.”

Village ran at Social Club from the opening whistle and were rewarded when Jai Bean was put through to easily sidefoot pass Social Club’s stand-in goalkeeper Clay Darrell to open the scoring. Bermuda international Zeiko Lewis had a free kick for Social Club which Village goalkeeper, captain Detre Bell, fumbled before his alert defence cleared to safety.

Village doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark when Bean’s free kick took a deflection off wingback Che’Kai Caisey to wrong-foot Darrell and give the hosts a two-goal cushion at the half.

Before Social Club could settle into position at the restart, Village added a third. From the kick-off, Caisey made a darting run down the left flank before his low cross found Jalen Harvey, who side-footed beyond the stranded Darrell.

Social Club reduced the deficit within minutes with the best goal of the game. Jah-Nai Smith’s perfectly flighted free kick was met with a powerful running header from Z’Chai Jennings-Barnett, which sailed past Bell into the roof off the net, giving him no chance.

Jonté Smith would restore the three-goal lead with a timely jump to head past his brother Darrell from substitute Manoj Paynter’s cross. Social Club captain Ryan Parris would reduce the deficit again from another set piece. Giniko Butterfield floated his free kick onto the captain’s head to nestle in the top right corner of Bell’s net.

With the game in the bag, substitute Tah-Ki Tucker rounded out the scoring a minute later, when he kept his composure to side foot home from another Paynter low cross.

In the final game of the weekend, Devonshire Cougars beat St George’s 6-1.
