West Pembroke’s Skye Furbert breaks record at track finals

Skye Furbert blitzes the field in the 400 metres

Skye Furbert, from West Pembroke, was the star performer at the Primary School Track and Field Championships on Wednesday.

Furbert broke the under 9-girls 100 metres record with her time of 13.93 seconds lowering the mark of 14.35 sec set in 2000 by Kiara Baxter.

The West Pembroke student also won the 2026 Toby Colombe Award for the best performer after winning the 100, 200 and 400 metres and anchoring her relay team.

Her exploits went a long way to helping West Pembroke Primary finish third in the combined team event behind winners Saltus. The team in red topped the table on 275 points, 30 clear of Warwick Academy with West Pembroke making it on to the podium with 172.

Warwick beat Saltus by a point in the girls competition, with Bermuda High School for Girls finishing third. Saltus reversed the placings with Warwick to win the boys team event, with Port Royal Primary picking up third place.

Furbert easily came out on top in the girls under-9 division, beating Salome Raynor of Dalton E Tucker Primary and Chelsea Caisey-Wears from St George’s Prep into second and third respectively.

Elliott Davidge, from Saltus, was top scorer in the under-9 boys category, finishing ahead of Port Royal Primary’s Tayun Showers. Kanzo Thompson of Dalton E Tucker was third.
