The Government will next week host a town hall meeting to gather feedback on proposed pay transparency legislation.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, said that pay transparency is an important tool to promote fairness, accountability and confidence in the workplace, and it was important to discuss the proposal with the public.

He added: “As we consider this proposed legislation, it is essential that we hear from employees, employers and the wider community.

“This town hall meeting provides an opportunity for meaningful dialogue that will help ensure any future legislation is practical, balanced and responsive to Bermuda’s needs.”

A spokesman said the legislation was part of the Government’s work to strengthen labour protections, promote fairness and address wage disparities.

The town hall, to be hosted by Mr Hayward, will include presentations from Stacey-Lee Williams, the executive director of Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda, and Lisa Reed, the executive officer at the Human Rights Commission.

Attendees will receive an overview of the proposed legislation, including requirements for salary ranges in job advertisements and restrictions on salary history inquiries during recruitment, followed by a question-and-answer period.

The spokesman added: “Members of the public, employers, employees, business owners, human resource professionals and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend and participate in this important discussion.

“The proposed pay transparency legislation consultation paper is available at forum.gov.bm, where members of the public can also submit feedback and comments on the proposal.”

The town hall is scheduled to take place between 6pm and 7.30pm on June 25 at the St Paul AME Centennial Hall in Hamilton.
