Call for blood donors as A positive and O positive needed

Residents were called upon today to make blood donations, with O positive and A positive types particularly needed.

The Bermuda Hospitals Board said that potential donors can call 236-5067 to make an appointment.

Anyone unsure about their blood type but willing to donate can contact the Bermuda Blood Donor Centre on the same number.

They can also e-mail blood.donor@bhb.bm or contact the facility by WhatsApp on (441) 533-9553.

Appointments are preferred, although walk-ins are accepted.

The blood donor centre is at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and is open Monday through Thursday from 8.30am to 2.30pm, and on Fridays from 8.30am to 1pm.

It is closed on weekends and public holidays.

A BHB spokeswoman said: “The Bermuda Blood Donor Centre team thanks the community for their kind assistance in ensuring they can continue to save lives.

“We also remind the public that the UK blood donation rule associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans has been lifted making it possible for several who were previously ineligible, to donate.”
