The rain may have been heavy but the second annual Kiddie Carnival brightened up Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon.

The carnival, hosted by BHW Ltd, helped include children in the Bermuda Heroes Weekend festivities, but with a family friendly atmosphere.

It started in Bull’s Head parking lot with nearly 100 children in carnival outfits and face paint.

The children danced along Dundonald Street with routines they had practised since January, while music trucks playing soca headed the parade. Many cars and onlookers cheered and honked in support as they walked to Victoria Park.

“It was awesome, the children did very well,” said Shantel Smith, head of organisers Ultimate Treasures.

“The humidity was high but they danced, pushed through, we gave them water route to route. It was very good.”

Victoria Park kept the festivities going with food vendors, fun castles and music provided by DJ Coolie and DJ Suri.

Despite the bad weather, children and families enjoyed the experience, and many, like Patrice Smith, consider it something they would love to do again.

“Last year I was here as well,” Ms Smith said. “And it’s something good for the kids to enjoy.”

Her granddaughter, Solé, who danced in the parade, agreed: “I liked the dancing, and I liked the fun castle.”
