Magistrate allows driver to keep trucker’s licence

A Warwick landscaper caught driving at nearly three times the legal limit was given a partial disqualification allowing him to keep driving for his job.

Derrick Butterfield, 45, apologised to Magistrates’ Court for the March 23 offence.

Police stopped his car at 6.50pm on Somerset Road, Sandys after spotting it swerve across the centre line. Noticing a small of alcohol, they arrested him.

The lower reading of test at the police station showed Butterfield had 229mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood — 80mg being the legal limit.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $800 and banned him from the roads for one year — but let him keep his intermediate truck licence for work purposes.
