A Warwick man has denied injuring a Bermuda Under-19 cricketer by driving without due care and attention.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court yesterday, 70-year-old Nigel Morgan was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Charles Trott Jr, a player for PHC who represented Bermuda when the island hosted the Under-19 World Cup qualifiers last year.

The accident happened on Middle Road in Warwick on January 6. Mr Morgan also denied causing grievous bodily harm to Davin Dill by driving without due care and attention on Middle Road on the same date. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo set a trial date for March 2 and granted Mr Morgan $6,000 bail.

Also in court, Charles Trott Jr and his father, Charles Trott Sr, both of Warwick, were fined $1,400 each for a series of traffic offences.

Trott Jr, 18, admitted driving while disqualified by reason of age, having no third-party insurance and riding an unlicensed motorcycle in Warwick on January 6.

“He was fined $150 and issued seven demerit points for driving while disqualified, $1,000 and two points for no insurance and $250 and two points for the unlicensed vehicle.

Meanwhile, Trott Sr, 59, admitted allowing the use of an unlicensed cycle and an uninsured cycle, for which he was fined $250 and issued two points, and $1,000 and two points respectively.

He was also fined $150 and issued seven demerit points after he admitted allowing someone to drive while disqualified.
