Health minister Kim Wilson will face questions about the standard health benefit premium at a town hall meeting tomorrow.

Ms Wilson said “misleading information” had been circulated after the Government announced that the standard health benefit would not be increased this year.

Insurance firm BF&M has argued that its own premiums were hit by the Government’s proposed changes to the distribution of standard premium rate that will be implemented on June 1.

Ms Wilson will be joined by Bermuda Health Council acting chief executive Ricky Brathwaite at the meeting at St Paul AME Centennial Hall from 6pm.

She said: “The announcement that the standard health benefit wasn’t going to increase this year led to misleading information being circulated.

“We are holding this meeting to outline what the SBH premium and Bermuda Hospitals Board funding mean, and how the changes affect consumers.”

Ms Wilson added: “We invite the general public and business owners to come and get the facts and to ask questions.

“This is an important step towards tackling healthcare cost and implementing cost-control measures to ensure healthcare money is used only for healthcare. I am encouraging everyone to attend.”
