Bahamian denies cannabis charge
A 23-year-old Bahamian National appeared in Magistrates' Court on Friday for importation and possession of cannabis.
Brent Cunningham was charged with possessing 520 grams of hashish, a street value of $50,000.
He could not plead to the charges as they are indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the matter until February 29. Cunningham was granted bail at $10,000 plus one surety.
Man disqualified from driving
Also in Magistrates' Court, Wyman Minks pleaded guilty to impaired driving.
The court heard from Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess that on October 23, Police arrested Minks during an accident.
At the time of the accident, Police noticed that the 42-year-old, Happy Valley resident, had slurred speech, glazed eyes and had a suspicious smell coming from his body.
When asked if he had been drinking Minks said: "No mate."
At the Police Station he was examined and found to have 233 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Minks if he had anything to say and he said: "I'm sorry for what happened."
He was fined $1,000 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
