Nahki Wells struck his fourteenth goal of the season in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Derby County in the Sky Bet Championship at the John Smith’s Stadium today.

The 24-year-old scored in the 72nd minute when Ryan Shotton, the Derby defender, gave the ball away to Wells who played in Sean Scannell, whose shot was saved by Grant but the Bermuda striker was there to capitalise.

Huddersfield, who have lost just one of their past eight games move to fifteenth in the table. Wells was substituted in the 88th minute.

Tom Ince scored early for Derby, but his side were 3-1 down at the break as Oscar Gobern, Mark Hudson and Reece James took advantage of poor defending by the visiting side.

Derby, who missed out on a chance to cement their place in the play-offs, started the fightback early in the second half as Simon Dawkins converted a Stephen Warnock cross.

Jesse Lingard, on loan from Manchester United, equalised for Steve McClaren’s side, but Wells put Huddersfield back ahead before Ince got his second to salvage a point.

Chris Powell, the Huddersfield manager, said: “Our attacking play was superb; we really worked their back four and goalkeeper. [Ishmael] Miller and Wells were backed up by the midfield.

“We turned it around from a goal down to two up. We were on the front foot today — but they [Derby] were clinical.”

Huddersfield take on Blackburn Rovers at home next Saturday.
