North Village continued their unbeaten start in the Premier League with a routine victory over Robin Hood at Goose Gosling Field last night.

Tahini Williams emerged as the star player for Rams, netting two first half goals, which put matters well beyond the reach of Hood early and give Village an easy second half.

The home side did not suffer from any lack of effort, but they lacked the talent, ability and squad strength of their in-form opponents. They also failed to show any cohesion in defence and attack against a well-coached, well-drilled Village team who look hell bent on establishing themselves as contenders for this season’s Premier League crown.

Village applied pressure early and were on the attack from the first whistle with Nacori Smith taking just five minutes to put them ahead when taking advantage of lax defending to find the left, low corner of goalkeeper Timmy Figureido’s net.

A brilliant left-side run by Justin Bell created a prime opening, which was squandered by Tre Ming in the 27th minute but just seven minutes later the Village lead was doubled when Williams punched home from short range.

More pressure ensued and Village was rewarded with a third goal before the break, with Williams again tapping in from close range to send both sides in at half time with very different outlooks.

The early stages of the second half featured more of the same with Village dominating without adding to their goals tally and Hood again unable to penetrate.

That was until the 78th minute when Jaizel Smith-DeShields got his name on the Village scoreboard.

“We’re first to play this weekend and so we’re top,” said Village coach Kenny Thompson afterwards. “There’s still a long way to go but we’re satisfied with maximum points and having three league shu outs is pleasing.

“We played with much more energy in the last tfew minutes of the first half and into the second, where we were probably much better in our movement and purpose of possession, but our play in the opponent’s half was probably the best this season.”
