Hoey leads home local runners

Rose-Anna Hoey completed the JFK 50 Mile running race in 7hr 52min 1sec, finishing twelfth overall among the women, to lead home a small contingent of athletes from Bermuda.

The runners faced an ascent of more than 1,000ft as they ran the 13-mile Appalachian Trail segment of the race. They also travelled along parts of the Chesapeake and Ohio canal.

The Bermuda group were raising funds for cancer charity Pals, and included experienced ultra marathoners Mark Harris, Anne Kermode, and Jamie-Lee Wright. The other two members of the team, Laura Wright and Darin Cassidy, finished together in 10:03:30.

While Kermode crossed the finish in 10:38:09, and Jamie-Lee Wright clocked 12:05:19.

The last recorded split time for Harris on the official results page was at the 15½ miles checkpoint, which he reached in 3:33:58.

Runners are given 13 hours to complete the event, which is held in Maryland.

The overall winner was Eric Senseman, or Arizona, in 5:46:54, while the first woman was Emily Harrison Torrence, also of Arizona, who was ninth overall, in 6:27:42
