Police have announced three road deaths tied to separate incidents bringing the total number to eight in just five months of 2026.

Leroy Smith, 43, who was involved in a crash on April 30, was named as the sixth fatality.

The two other road deaths, a 73-year-old motorcyclist and a 30-year-old motorcyclist, were involved in separate collisions that took place yesterday.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said Mr Smith was the pillion passenger of a motorcycle being rode along Harbour Road in Paget.

The vehicle crashed at about 11.15pm while negotiating a bend near Lower Ferry.

Mr Smith and the rider were thrown from the motorcycle, though the rider was not reported to be seriously injured.

A 26-year-old man has since been arrested in connection to the incident, though inquiries are ongoing.

The spokesman added that police and other first responders were called to a serious collision at about 11.24am yesterday between a bus and a motorcycle on Palmetto Road in Devonshire.

Police said a 73-year-old man was riding in a westward direction when his vehicle collided with the bus, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Officers attempted life-saving efforts until EMTs arrived and took him to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

He later succumbed to his injuries, while the bus driver did not report any injuries.
