A man caught on a motorbike while nearly three times the drink-driving limit was disqualified at the time, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.

Delano Burgess, 39, was fined more than $3,000 and given a further driving ban after he admitted drink-driving and driving while disqualified.

The court heard that Burgess was seen making a U-turn on his motorcycle to avoid a roadside breath test checkpoint in Paget.

He was stopped by police and taken to Hamilton Police Station after he failed a breath test.

Burgess was found to have 233mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

The incident happened on March 22.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson heard that Burgess, from St George’s, was banned from the roads for two years in November 2017 for a similar offence.

Ms Anderson fined Burgess $3,250 and ordered him to pay by May 15. She also banned the defendant from the roads for an additional three years.
