Bike accident woman is in a critical condition
A Warwick woman has been left fighting for her life in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, following a serious motorcycle crash on Crow Lane, Pembroke. She is currently in the Intensive Care Unit, where her condition last night was said to be critical. The 24-year-old lost control of her vehicle near the junction with Corkscrew Hill at 3.55 yesterday morning. The location was described just last week as a blackspot by Works Minister Derrick Burgess. At a Progressive Labour Party public meeting in support of MP Marc Bean, Mr Burgess spoke of his frustration that fatal accidents continue on Bermuda's roads despite the money spent to make them safer. The Minister said Government had no more money to spend on notorious stretches of road such as Crow Lane. The area came top of a list of frequent accident spots at a November 14 press conference on road safety, also given by Mr Burgess, in which he highlighted recent improvements to its surface, elevation and markings. Those improvements had been pledged after the August, 2009 death of 33-year-old guest worker James Quinn.Mr Quinn, whose bike struck a traffic pole at the junction, was said by Government to be the sixth fatality at the location in ten years.Police have appealed for witnesses to yesterday's accident, and anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Mervin Homer at 295 0011.
