Residents urged to put their small change to a good cause

Johnny Barnes helps with 'Coins for a Cause'.

If you've got buckets of change at home, but can't be bothered to lug them to the bank — here's your opportunity to finally put an end to the jingle, jangle.

The Bermuda Junior Service League has launched 'Coins for a Cause 2010' to raise funds for Bermuda Islands Association of the Deaf.

From now until September 24 the Bermuda Junior Service League is inviting the public to be on the look out for yellow coin buckets across the Island.

Past recipients of 'Coins for a Cause' have included Habitat for Humanity and the Sexual Assault Response Team Room at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The aims and objectives of this year's recipient, the Bermuda Islands Association of the Deaf, are to overcome social barriers; improve the lives of the deaf and hard of hearing; teach deaf adult education; be consultants to parents of children with hearing loss; gain equality of communications access for the deaf and hard of hearing community and help deaf citizens to become more self-sufficient and productive citizens.

'Coins for a Cause' also offers local businesses an opportunity to support the local community without the need to make an actual donation.

All that is asked of them is to place the bucket on a counter or similar location and encourage customers and colleagues to donate their change.

The League would like to encourage members of the public and school children to support our community by dropping their spare change into a 'Coins for a Cause' bucket at retail stores and businesses Island-wide.

The Bermuda Junior Service League, founded in 1936, is a registered women's charity that focuses on community service and raising money to aid the community.
