RG Fantasy League: Fernandes worthy of captain status

It is a tight race to be crowned top Fantasy League midfielder with Antoine Semenyo, Bruno Fernandes and Declan Rice within 12 points of each other.

Arsenal midfielder Rice, at first glance, looks likely to make hay this week with his side at home to Everton but the away side could well prove problematic.

David Moyes’s side are in the top four on away performances this season, with only Arsenal and Chelsea picking up more points on the road and the Gunners the only team conceding fewer goals.

Everton have picked up four wins and a draw in their last five away games and are likely to be hard to beat.

Semenyo travels to London with Manchester City to face a rejuvenated West Ham, who remain in good form.

That leaves Fernandes as the player likely to pick up most points. He should be considered as captain given Manchester United play Aston Villa, who have won just one of their past six games.

Saturday

Burnley v Bournemouth (12pm)

Burnley have won just two home games this season and only one of their last ten games. Forward Zian Fleming has scored 15 points in three games, while James Ward-Prowse has made an impact in the past four games.

Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams has impressed in three games since returning from injury and could pick up points in this game.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunderland v Brighton & Hove Albion (12pm)

Only Arsenal and Manchester City have conceded fewer home goals than Sunderland and Brighton have scored only 16 goals in their 14 away games.

That suggests Sunderland defenders should be of interest and Daniel Ballard is worthy of a mention especially given his threat at attacking set pieces. Goalkeeper Robin Roefs is out injured.

Brighton will be without Kaoru Mitoma.

Prediction: 1-0

Arsenal v Everton (2.30pm)

Despite Everton’s good away record, they have had the fewest shots on target away from home in the Premier League this season and and their expected goals is towards the bottom end of the division.

As a result Arsenal defenders could rack up some points and Jurrien Timber, Piero Hincapie and Gabriel should be marshaling your back line. Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard are doubtful for this match.

Prediction: 2-0

Chelsea v Newcastle (2.30pm)

Newcastle are one of the more difficult teams to predict with hugely inconsistent results. Bruno Guimaraes continues to be a huge miss for the magpies but Anthony Gordon can be expected to cause the Chelsea defence some problems.

Chelsea are fourteenth in the league when it comes to home form, winning less than half their matches at Stamford Bridge. Defender Reece James has picked up 14 points in three matches but Joao Pedro is one of the game’s in-form players with 68 points in his past seven games.

Prediction: 1-1

West Ham v Manchester City (5pm)

West Ham are making a good fight of things in their battle against relegation and Jarrod Bowen is the gift that keeps on giving with 42 points in his past seven games. Crysencio Summerville has also provided plenty of points but is struggling with a knock.

Manchester City were held at home by Nottingham Forest in their last league game and heavily beaten by Real Madrid in midweek. Nico O’Reilly did not play against Forest but had 36 points in three games before that and will surely be back in the sporting line-up.

Prediction: 2-1

Sunday

Crystal Palace v Leeds (11am)

Palace’s form has picked up of late with three wins in their last six games and forward Jorgen Strand Larsen has scored 21 points in four game and should get chances here, while Ismaila Sarr is still a huge threat

Leeds have started to struggle again with just one win in their past six games.

Prediction: 2-0

Manchester United v Aston Villa (11am)

Only Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham have worse records than Aston Villa in the past six games.

Benjamin Sesko has 26 points in the past four games for United and alongside Fernandes will get the opportunity to pick up plenty of points here.

Prediction: 3-1

Nottingham Forest v Fulham (11am)

Fulham are average away from home, with just four wins from 14 games and have not much to play for in their remaining games.

A Forest clean sheet is more than possible here, which makes goalkeeper Matz Sels of interest, while striker Igor Jesus, who has provided two assists in the past two games, could also be of interest.

Prediction: 2-0

Liverpool v Tottenham (1.30pm)

Tottenham could be in the bottom three by the start of this game if West Ham and/or Nottingham Forest pick up points earlier in the weekend.

Micky Van de Ven is suspended for this game and his defensive partner Cristian Romero is struggling with a head injury.

Mohamed Salah will have frustrated plenty of Fantasy league managers this season but Liverpool could take advantage of Tottenham’s defensive frailties.

Prediction: 3-1

Monday

Brentford v Wolverhampton Wanderers (5pm)

Wolves have scored only five away league goals this season which makes Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and his defenders must haves this week.Forward Igor Thiago will also be hoping to add to his goals tally.

Prediction: 2-0
