Leseur overturns final round deficit

Kenny Leseur achieved another milestone competing on the IMG Junior Golf Tour at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida at the weekend.

The Bermudian came from a shot back of overnight leader Luke Bigelow during Sunday's final round of the 36-hole championship to claim the boys 15-18 title by as many strokes.

The win was Leseur's first playing on this particular Tour, a feat he attributes to the countless hours spent lately on perfecting his craft.

“I have put in a lot of work since Christmas break on my swing and course management and I'd like to thank my coach [Grant Balcke] for helping me along the way,” said Leseur, who finished at three-under-par, 143.

“This one is definitely up there in my all-time achievements, especially since this is my second tournament in the 15-18 age group.”

The promising 15-year-old fired an impressive three-under-par 70, which included two birdies, an eagle and a bogey, during Saturday's opening round to put himself in thick of contention for honours.

He then sealed the deal after closing with an even par 73 during the final round that contained four birdies and as many bogeys to pip Luc Warnock for the title.

“The back nine on the second day, I really played well, and that helped me get the win,” Leseur said.

“Eagle Creek is a pretty easy course in general but there are not a lot of trees which means it can get windy. It did on the back nine on the last day and growing up in Bermuda I was used to the wind.

“It was a very strong field with most of the players being 17 or 18.

“There is a golf academy at that course and all the children had an advantage of playing there every day, but I managed that pretty well.”

The win was Leseur's second in four months having won the 12-14 age group at last December's Future Collegians World Tour Junior Golf Tournament at the Falcons Fire Golf Club in Kissimmee, Florida where he also finished third overall.
