Adam Scott relishes the opportunity to make a triumphant return to the island as he sets his sights on Butterfield Bermuda Championship glory.

Ten years after winning the PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Port Royal, Scott returns to the venue as one of the favourites, coming into the PGA Tour event as the second highest-ranked player at number 45 – behind the 31st- ranked Lucas Glover.

The duo, together with former champion Brendon Todd and fellow American, rising superstar Akshay Bhatia headline the field of 132 players set to compete from tomorrow to Sunday.

With the year drawing to a close, the former world No 1 is searching for something to boost his ranking heading into 2024.

“It’s great to be back, I was excited to come here,’’ said Scott. “It will be great to go out and hopefully win a tournament this week. Every time I play, I'm here to try and win this golf tournament.

“I've been working on a lot of different things in my game, I’m trying to put it all together here this week, and go into next year full of confidence.

“I feel I've played fairly solid all year and knocked off results. I'm not going to get results being on the couch at home.

“It would be nice to get going on the PGA Tour before next season starts. I need to try and improve my standings and get a position in a couple of these signature events.”

In his previous triumph in 2013, Scott fired a course record seven-under 64 to claim victory. Since his arrival on the island, he has been trying to get reaccustomed to the course once again.

Yesterday, he played the back nine to have a feel of how the course is responding, and shared his observations on some of changes he has seen from a decade ago.

“I had a great time and a good experience on this golf course for a couple of days ten years ago,” he added.

“However, It wasn't very much what I remember. I'm going to spend a couple of the next days getting used to the condition of the course.

“The grass, the speed of the greens, there’s a lot of movement on this terrain here and I think some subtle tees on the green you have to pay attention to.

“It’s quite severe in response, certainly playing on the 18th, I thought that was quite severe, there’s a lot of tee shots where you don't see where the ball finishes. That’s always a little challenging, when the hole is right in front of you.

“It seems soft, I’m sure the scoring’s going to be pretty good, whether the wind blows or not. The grass is similar to back home in Queensland, with the wind blowing, it feels like home.

“I certainly enjoy playing in these type of resort style type of golf in tropical weather, it feels a bit more like home to me.”

Instead of being weighed down by the pressure of being among the favourites to win the championship, Scott wants to draw strength from the demands that come with the tag.

“Many different times in my career I've come to events as the favourite, world No 1 or in good form with expectation being high,’’ he said. “That’s what I like, that’s the environment I want to be in. If it is the case this week that I feel like I’m the best player here, it might help me perform a little bit better.

“I don't fight pressure like that, you can feed off that expectation a little bit.”
