Bermuda’s success in the containment of Covid-19 was highlighted in a live interview to eight million radio listeners in Britain.Nadine Breeze, an English legal secretary at law firm Conyers in Hamilton, said she e-mailed BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine Show after she heard the host talk about Bermuda’s tough pandemic health regulations. Ms Breeze added: “I thought Bermuda deserved some credit and was hoping he would read my e-mail out on the show but instead they called and asked if I would go live on air.“Bermuda has been very strict and has done a fantastic job managing Covid right from the start with early lockdown, mandatory face masks, named shopping days and curfews and so on. I said Bermuda deserved a mention because it has done so well protecting its people and visiting tourists, and if I was a tourist, I would feel safe visiting this gorgeous island.”Ms Breeze was featured on the show last Friday in a segment about British expatriates who found comfort in listening to the BBC.Jeremy Vine, a British TV and radio presenter and journalist, was absent so she was interviewed by fellow TV and radio host Paddy O’Connell.He asked Ms Breeze what it was like to listen to the radio when she was an expatriate in Bermuda. Ms Breeze, originally from Solihull in the West Midlands, but who has lived in Bermuda for ten years, told him: “It is a real connection to home.“It’s nice to hear what is happening and it is nice to hear people calling in, especially when we have been in lockdown.“It is still stressful being away, but I have to say I am living in one of the most beautiful places on earth; it is gorgeous. I heard Jeremy mentioning Bermuda being quite strict and that is why I e-mailed in, because it has been strict on its lockdown procedures, but it has done such a fantastic job and I thought it deserved a bit of credit, really. Ms Breeze added: “I love Bermuda, it is my adopted home ... but you always have that homesick feeling in a way, especially at the moment because we can’t see family and friends.“I am missing everyone but it has been a marvellous place to be locked down. I am so proud of the way that Bermuda has handled it. For a little island at almost zero cases, it is lovely.”
