Attention will be on Bernard Park tomorrow for what promises to be en exciting encounter between hosts North Village and promoted Hamilton Parish.

Both teams are fresh off victories over PHC Zebras and Dandy Town respectively, in the Dudley Eve Trophy quarter-finals in midweek and will be keen to build on their momentum.

The two rivals also got their league campaigns off to the perfect starts last weekend, Village edging PHC 1-0 in their first night match at Stadium Lane in over two decades and Parish thrashing X-Roads 4-1 at Lord’s in St David’s.

Village have kept clean sheets in their previous two outings, with deputising captain Jaylen Harvey and Kyler Knights forming an impressive partnership at the heart of their defence.

However, the hosts could have their work cut out for them against a rampant Parish attack that has scored eight goals in their previous two outings.

Sergio Goater’s team have raised eyebrows having already exceeded expectations this season, including in this week’s impressive come-from-behind win over defending league champions Dandy Town.

“It was definitely pleasing to win the other night,” Goater said.

“I think the boys were a bit overwhelmed by the opponents initially because too many times they stood and watched the play.

“But then they came out with a lot more determination in the second half and put in that hard work and the result came our way.”

Goater said his team will have to be mentally switched on if they are to be successful against Village, who have not conceded a goal since battling to a 3-3 draw with Dandy Town in a high-scoring Dudley Eve Trophy group A match at Devonshire Recreation Club on September 20.

“It’s back to the league now which is our real priority and you’re talking about playing North Village down Bernard Park, so it’s a big away game for us and the boys have to be mentally prepared,” he added.

Goater is happy to see his players reaping reward for their hard work during preseason.

“We have put in some hard work over the preseason and after that game the other night I am pretty sure now they feel they belong in this league,” he said. “It’s about confidence but remain humble at the same time and it should be a good game.”

Premier Division action begins tonight with Somerset Trojans hosting St George’s Colts at Somerset Cricket Club (9pm).

Trojans will be aiming to bounce back from a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Devonshire Rec in their opening match, while Colts will be hoping to build on the momentum of a 3-1 win over Boulevard.

That match will be preceded by the First Division encounter between Devonshire Colts and St David’s (7pm).

Tomorrow’s remaining top-flight matches sees PHC at home to Robin Hood and Dandy Town taking on Boulevard at Goose Gosling Field. All matches are scheduled to kick off at 3pm.

First Division action also continues tomorrow with Somerset Eagles hosting BAA at White Hill Field, Ireland Rangers facing Southampton Rangers at Somerset Cricket Club and Young Men’s Social Club doing battle with Paget at Bernard Park. All matches are to start at 12.30pm.
