More than 200 youngsters are expected to compete in the 28th annual Clarien Iron Kids Triathlon and Carnival tomorrow at Clearwater Beach in St David’s.

Registration closes today and is available online only at www.clarienironkids.com with registration closing at 5pm. Competitors must collect their race numbers and giveaway bags at Clearwater Beach on race day between noon and 2pm.

Registration fee is $8 for tiny tots aged between three and six, and $15 for all other participants from seven to 15 years. Participants must be between the ages of three and 15 on December 31, and children turning seven or 11 before that date will be required to register in the next age group.

The top three boys and girls finishers in the 11-15 category will win scholarship funds for Clarien Iron Kids accounts. First place will receive $1,000, second $500 and third $250.

Racing starts at 2.30pm, with the carnival, featuring water tag, water slide, zip line, fun castle and face painting, opening at noon.

Clarien also advise the public that traffic will be restricted in the Clearwater Beach area between 2.30pm and 5pm, as well as on the roads from the beach to the roundabout near Southside Fire Station.

During this time there will be periodic road closures to allow cyclists to pass. Motorists travelling to Gombey’s Restaurant will be diverted through Clearwater Beach car park then back onto Cooper’s Island Road. Parking for participants and spectators will be available at Clearwater Beach.

The triathlon is sponsored by Colonial Insurance, Chubb, Ernst & Young and AON. Supporting sponsors are Barritt’s, Bicycle Works, Winners Edge, Gateway, Sportseller, Island Press and Bermuda Land Development Company. Hott 107 DJ Nikita Robinson will be broadcasting live from the event from 11am.
