Two murals have helped brighten construction sites in North East Hamilton, thanks to Community Volunteer week.The initiative was spearheaded by HSBC bank, and around 150 bank employees pitched in to help.Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kim Wilson joined HSBC CEO Philip Butterfield to highlight their work yesterday.She said: “Quite simply, we are of the belief that public art is a pleasing focal point to any community that is undergoing revitalisation, thus we believed that it was essential to complete various art projects that showcase the spirit of family and strong community that is prevalent in North East Hamilton.“During this week HSBC volunteers helped to complete two art mural projects, which will be erected around the construction site of Brunswick and Angle Streets, and the eastern walkway of Till’s Hill.“To produce these works of art, we enlisted the support and talents of our great local artists who provided the concept and designs for these beautiful murals.”The volunteer week also saw the exterior of Princess Terraces on Princess Street painted. The historic building was built in 1881 by Samuel David Robinson, the co-founder of the Berkeley Institute. Masonry work was also done, along with landscaping and repairs to damp spots.HSBC also facilitated free educational seminars at the Chewstick Foundation on Elliott Street.
