Letters to the Editor

Dear Sir,

After seeing the news broadcast on TV on January 10, 2006, I decided to pen this letter to all those pit-bull owners that would rather take their dogs and pitch them off a cliff rather than call the Dog Warden or the S.P.C.A.

I speak to quite a few of these type of owners at times, they have the wrong impression of the Dog Wardens, maybe through past encounters they may have had with the old Wardens (I don't know). Regardless that Pit Bulls are on the banned dog list. That is no reason to do what this person has done. I know Jeffery, and I know that he would try to rehouse your Pit before he takes the most drastic option. Only if your dog is so vicious will he/she be put down.

So please I beg the rest of you, who for whatever reason are unable to care for your dog or dogs do not do what this callous person has done. As a pit lover and there are many of us in Bermuda please call Mr. Bean or Jeffery to pick up your animal. PLEASE! In the Sky - Speaking for the Drowned

Dear Sir,

Share the Christmas Spirit

The Lions Clubs of Bermuda would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone in Bermuda who contributed to this past season's Share the Christmas Spirit. We had a wonderful response from individuals contributing their donations in the bins provided at their local Market Place store, and from schools and pre-schools who made collections on our behalf. Our grateful thanks to local businesses for their contributions of food donations, advertising, gift wrap, and monetary gifts.

Again the students from Cedarbridge wrapped our boxes used for the hampers. A very much appreciated and time consuming job.

Our annual in-store tag day held on Saturday, 16th November, again surpassed all previous years in raising a total of $3,418.18. Many thanks to Warwick Academy Leo Club for tagging for a whole day at a Paget store where they received $389.57 in contributions. Through the generosity of everyone involved we were able to make up and deliver a total of 440 hampers to help bring a little extra joy to our local recipients.

Thanks go to all of Bermuda in Sharing the Christmas Spirit.
