Man with the golden voice invited to Bermuda

Ted Williams, the homeless man with the golden voice, now sporting a new haircut and clean clothes, appears on the Morning Zoo programme at WNCI (97.9 FM) in Columbus, Ohio. Williams, whose deep, velvety radio voice and touching story prompted an outpouring of sympathy and job offers from across the country, has become an overnight sensation.

Government has invited American voice-over artist Ted Williams to the Island after he extolled Bermuda as a holiday destination on NBC. Tourism Minister Patrice Minors said she was moved by the fact that Mr Williams recalled a visit here as “a beacon of light in his life”.Mr Williams was homeless until a YouTube clip featuring his “golden voice” became an internet sensation.The native New Yorker had fallen on hard times as a result of substance abuse. On Thursday he was interviewed on NBC’s ‘Today Show’.Mr Williams told hosts Ann Curry and Al Roker that a visit here in the 70s was “the most happiest moment” of his life. Yesterday, Mrs Minors said the Department of Tourism “reached out to Mr Williams to let him know that his story has deeply touched all of Bermuda”.“We would be pleased to welcome him, and it’s hoped that he will be able to visit the Island sometime in the near future.”She added: “This must be an overwhelming time right now for Mr Williams, with tens of millions of people being swept up in his story after viewing it via television and the web. So we can certainly appreciate that Mr Williams is under an intense spot light right now.“Spending some time to digest all that is happening in a place where he has fond memories could be a wonderful experience for him.”
